Munich - Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has appointed Markus Schmid as Managing Director aligned with the continued expansion of the firm’s  Restructuring capabilities in Germany. Mr. Schmid’s joining demonstrates A&M’s commitment to helping global and pan-European organizations seamlessly solve complex problems, maximize value and drive change.

In recent years, A&M’s Restructuring team in Europe has extended its footprint across Nordics, France, Switzerland and Spain. The addition of Mr. Schmid advances the firm’s strategic plan to augment its company-side restructuring offering regionally and across Europe.

Mr. Schmid brings more than 25 years of experience in restructuring and turnaround management through several senior management roles. He has advised clients on operational restructuring, holistic performance improvement initiatives and complex workforce reduction programs. Additionally, Mr. Schmid has worked across a range of industries, including telecommunications, media, technology, services and manufacturing.

Mr. Schmid has supported complex restructuring and turnaround processes at both large international companies and mid-sized businesses and has successfully managed complex post-merger integrations and carveouts. He is a recognized expert in the implementation of complex workforce reduction programs in Germany and in bordering countries.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Schmid was Managing Director and Co-Head of Transformation Services in DACH at Kearney. Before that, he led the Restructuring and Post-Merger Division of Goetzpartners as a Managing Director and a member of the executive board. He has also held executive roles at PACT Group, TeleColumbus, Primacom, Sky Austria, and Sky Germany. He began his career at Andersen Consulting.
