Jonathan Hornby is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Taxand U.K., with more than 17 years of corporate and international tax experience.

He has worked extensively with multinational organizations, operating across a range of industry sector including retail, shipping and air transport, real estate, manufacturing, natural resources and utilities.

Mr. Hornby advises clients on all aspects of corporate taxation, with a particular focus on international reorganizations, tax efficient financing, acquisitions, disposals and cross-border mergers. He has extensive practical experience of both advisory and compliance engagements.

Recent assignments include: advising on the acquisition of a cosmetics group for a French-based private equity fund; assisting an oil and gas firm with dispute resolution concerning intellectual property disposals; advising on the design of a procurement structure for a South African-based multinational; tax efficient structuring for the acquisition of London real estate for a Spanish investor; and multiple compliance assignments for a French luxury goods retailer.

Additionally, he leads the European and U.K. tax advice regarding the Lehman Brothers Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

Before A&M, Mr. Hornby spent 11 years with Deloitte & Touche in London as a member of its international tax team, responsible for serving large corporate clients. He also worked with Deloitte’s mergers and acquisition tax team, providing transaction support services and tax structuring advice to both financial and strategic buyers.

He takes a keen interest in tax policy and has been directly involved in consulting with U.K. tax authorities on a number of significant changes to the taxation of multinationals in the U.K. He is frequently quoted in the financial press on taxation matters.

Mr. Hornby earned a first-class honors degree in chemistry from the University of Sheffield. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). He is a U.K. national.
