Pablo Alonso

In banking, Mr. Alonso has recently worked on the €1.4 billion acquisition of minorities by BBVA of Garanti and the $11.5 billion acquisition of BBVA’s U.S. operations by PNC. Other notable transactions include the €13+ billion acquisitions of BBVA’s and Santander’s banking operations in the U.S., the €3.8 billion IPO of Criteria, the restructuring of Kaupthing Bank, the €16 billion restructuring of “la Caixa” that resulted in the creation of CaixaBank, the €1 billion acquisition of Abanca by Grupo Banesco, and the €1.1 billion disposal of Santander’s interest in WiZink.
In insurance, Mr. Alonso recently worked on the €2.3 billion disposal of Liberty Mutual EMEA operations, the disposal of the leading Iberian insurance corporate broker MDS to Ardonagh Group, the €1.2 billion restructuring of the Bankia’s/CaixaBank’s bancassurance business, the €374 million creation of bancassurance JV between BBVA and Allianz, and the €1.5 billion listing of Linea Directa Aseguradora. Mr. Alonso’s other relevant insurance transactions include the €7.3 billion demutualization of Mapfre, the €1.2 billion acquisition of Adeslas by Criteria, the €1.2 billion acquisition of Codan’s minorities by RSA, the disposal of Fiba Sigorta to Sompo and the €1 billion unwind of Aviva’s bancassurance relations in Spain.
Mr. Alonso also has relevant experience in financial services verticals including fintech, with transactions like the €1.9 billion disposal of Allfunds Bank and in debt servicing, with transactions like the €313 MM disposal of Aktua.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Alonso was a senior Managing Director with Bank of America FIG EMEA for 10 years. Previously, he worked for nine years in the FIG EMEA team of Morgan Stanley and one year in the FIG EMEA team of Deutsche Bank.
Mr. Alonso earned bachelor’s degrees in business administration and actuarial and financial sciences from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE).
