Alvarez & Marsal's Financial Restructuring Advisory Offering Expands to Italy

Jacopo Barontini, former Deloitte Partner, joins A&M as a Managing Director

Milan – Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has strengthened its capabilities in Italy with the appointment of Jacopo Barontini, as Managing Director in charge of the Financial Restructuring Advisory practice based in Milan. Mr Barontini’s appointment is the next strategic step in the expansion of A&M’s EMEA Financial Restructuring offering, building upon this capability’s growth across France, the Nordics, Spain, Switzerland and Germany alongside its large team based in London.

Mr. Barontini, who served as a Deloitte Partner prior to joining A&M, will lead the development of the firm’s Financial Restructuring Advisory offering in Italy focusing on the domestic market. Locally he will work alongside Alberto Franzone and Adriano Bianchi who focus on corporate restructuring and corporate turnaround. Mr. Barontini will also collaborate on international, cross-border transactions alongside A&M’s London-based team, including Managing Director Christian Ebner and Senior Director Dario Bortot who both joined A&M from Deloitte in 2020.

Paul Kirkbright, Managing Director and leader of A&M’s Financial Restructuring Advisory team in EMEA, said, “Our on-the-ground initiatives in Italy reflect our hands-on approach to meeting evolving financial restructuring needs across the region. Jacopo’s appointment demonstrates our commitment to the market and to maximizing value for clients via our ability to solve complex problems both locally and on a cross border basis. Amidst a changing regulatory environment, A&M’s freedom from audit conflicts ensures the continued advancement of our comprehensive offering across the region. We already have the most comprehensive service and geographical coverage of any independent firm with more growth still to come.”

A&M’s Financial Restructuring Advisory team provides restructuring advice to creditors, investors, corporates, management, and other stakeholders to drive restructuring solutions with thorough financial analysis, Independent Business Review, contingency planning, operational expertise, and financial advisory services.

Mr. Barontini has more than 20 years of financial restructuring experience. He specializes in domestic and cross-border restructurings, refinancing and reorganisations. Additionally, Mr Barontini has advised corporate clients, lenders, and borrowers on complex transactions in both in-court and out-of-court restructurings across multiple industries and jurisdictions. Recent transactions include Fintyre (Lender advisory, 2020), Prometeon (Lender advisory, 2019) and Roberto Cavalli (Special Situation Advisory, 2019).

Mr Barontini said “I am tremendously excited to join A&M’s Financial Restructuring Advisory practice. Its cross-function activity and its unique positioning in turnaround services will help in boosting an integrated and complementary proposition, being a perfect match on a deal and post-deal basis, for both lenders and corporate clients. The growth across the EMEA region has been astounding and it is fantastic to join a team with such ambition.”

Alberto Franzone, Managing Director in A&M Italy’s Restructuring practice, said, “Jacopo’s appointment enhances A&M’s integrated financial advisory practice and our ability to provide cross functional turnaround services and solutions that drive change. His expertise dovetails with both our lender and corporate clients’ deal and post-deal needs today and moving forward.”
