ALVAREZ & MARSAL ENHANCES ITS COMMERCIAL DUE DILIGENCE EXPERTISE TO 15 SENIOR HIRES
- Managing Directors Torbjörn Månsson and Johan Lundgren appointed in Stockholm
- Managing Director Oleg Zubarev joins in London, with MD Rodrigo Rodriguez based in Madrid
- Senior Directors Nick Mountfield and Harald Meinders start in London and Amsterdam
London, 1st November 2023 -- Global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has enhanced its Commercial Due Diligence (CDD) capability with several new appointments to its Private Equity Performance Improvement practice. Among 15 senior hires across Europe, the moves form part of the firm’s strategy to create integrated commercial, financial, tax and operational due diligence in a comprehensive pre-deal offering that will provide a genuine transformation post-deal roadmap.
Torbjörn Månsson focuses on pre- and post-acquisition work for private equity and strategy and performance improvement in corporate settings. He has held operating, CEO and board-level positions, having spent more than three decades in consulting and investment banking. He has 25 years of strategy consulting experience, including 18 years at Bain & Company, has built and led as CEO the Bank Asset Management Company for the Slovenian government, and also led Corporate Finance at Swedbank. His sector experience includes industrial goods, financial services, logistics, consumer goods and retail, business services, tech and public-sector clients across Europe.
Also building out the Stockholm practice from Bain & Co, Johan Lundgren brings more than 30 years of experience in advising C-suite and board-level management. Associated with many notable success stories for top-tier private equity firms, investment companies and their portfolio companies in the Nordics, he has supported clients across a range of industries – including industrial goods and services, process industry, healthcare products and private equity. Lundgren specialises in strategy, performance improvement and M&A.
Oleg Zubarev advises funds and portfolio companies across the entire private equity life cycle. Previously a partner at Kearney, he counts on more than a decade’s experience in the European market and is a specialist in sector strategies and target screening, buy- and sell-side commercial and operational due diligence, post-acquisition transformation and mid-sized businesses. Nick Mountfield joins from OC&C and concentrates on buy- and sell-side CDD, growth strategy and value creation planning. He brings more than 25 years of experience, having worked with clients in the automotive, infrastructure services, consumer financial services and travel sectors. The new hires join Rodrigo Rodríguez, a Managing Director with more than 20 years of experience, secured from EY Parthenon this year to build out A&M’s team in Madrid, as well as Senior Director Harald Meinders, an expert in market, customer, and competitor assessments most recently at PwC in Amsterdam.
Mike Trenouth, Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in London, commented, “We see tremendous value for our clients in integrating CDD, FDD, TDD and ODD. While combining these separate products is seldom done well, at A&M we align excellence in all disciplines to build a powerful, integrated transformation plan in diligence. That’s why we’re so pleased to have specialists of such calibre join the team. Having all held long-term sector roles, they bring the deep industry expertise that is so crucial to realising our clients’ full strategic and commercial potential.”
Månsson said: “CDD reports are increasingly designed to give funds and banks comfort on the market and competitive dynamics – they are rarely of meaningful value to the management of the target firm. It’s clear that A&M does things differently. Rooted in the practical reality that companies face, I’m looking forward to navigating our clients’ strategic challenges, and outlining what needs to be done to grasp their opportunities.”
Lundgren added: “Having overseen transformation programmes with billion-euro impact, I know that powerful analytical capabilities are not enough to help management and investors solve their most pressing strategic and operational issues. I’m keen to bring my insights to A&M, and to help build out a CDD offering that is not biased towards theory, but rather is pragmatic and attuned to the industry.”
