Alvarez & Marsal Expands its Disputes and Investigations Practice to Greece
Recognized industry expert, Dr. Kallia Gavela appointed to lead A&M Greece’s Disputes and Investigations team
Athens, Greece - Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) announces Dr. Kallia Gavela’s appointment as Senior Director to lead its Disputes and Investigations team in Greece. Dr. Gavela’s hire demonstrates the firm’s ongoing commitment to address the market’s evolving needs against the backdrop of growing regulatory scrutiny across the region.
Aligned with A&M’s strategic growth plans, Dr. Gavela’s joining follows on the recent establishment of its Disputes and Investigations offering in Switzerland with Zurich-based Managing Director Jerry Lay and Geneva-based Managing Director Penelope Lepeudry.
Dr. Gavela advises clients on litigation consulting and forensic investigations along with big data technologies aimed at optimizing investigative processes and legal operations. She has in-depth expertise planning, staffing, and managing high-profile litigation, regulatory and internal investigation engagements for multinational corporates and law firms based in the UK, US, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Hong Kong and Japan.
Dr. Gavela’s notable engagements include a broad array of multi-jurisdictional engagements in the context of bribery and corruption (FCPA/UK Bribery Act), fraud, financial crime, data loss and cyber security breaches, and employee misconduct. Additionally, she has advised on EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) investigations and Data Subject Access Requests in the context of employment litigation and disputes.
Antonio "Tony" Alvarez III, Managing Director and A&M’s EMEA Practice lead, said, “We anticipate growing regulatory scrutiny in Greece, just as we have seen across multiple regions in EMEA. Kallia’s litigation consulting and forensic technology experience, combined with her cross-border perspective, enhances our ability to help clients locally and globally solve for complex problems while navigating a landscape of fiscal challenges.”
Phil Beckett, Managing Director and Leader of A&M’s Europe and Middle East Disputes and Investigations practice, said, “Kallia’s experience leveraging forensic technology for investigations bolsters our capabilities and adds value for our clients in Greece and across EMEA. Her expertise strengthens our offering to best address clients’ current and future concerns.”
Prior to joining A&M, Dr. Gavela spent six years within EY’s UKI Forensic & Integrity Services (FIS), where she successfully directed global engagements and business development on global accounts. Previously, Dr. Gavela worked in various legal and managerial roles in the UK and Germany.
Marios Koliopoulos, Country Head of Alvarez & Marsal Greece, added, “Kallia’s high-profile and complex global dispute and forensic investigation experience, coupled with her technology expertise, complements our corporate restructuring, performance improvement, and financial industry advisory services. Her background dovetails with A&M’s operational heritage and our leadership, action, results approach.”
Dr. Gavela said, “A&M is well-positioned to grow its Disputes and Investigations footprint in Greece and EMEA. The firm’s integrated platform and freedom from audit conflicts enhances my ability to harness the power of technology and data to efficiently and effectively solve clients’ legal and investigatory challenges.”
Dr. Gavela earned a bachelor’s degree in law from the National Kapodistrian University Athens, along with an LLM in medical law, professional negligence and malpractice and a PhD in Law from Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg.
