Michael McGee

Mr. McGee’s focus is helping clients optimize cross-border transactions while reducing tax liabilities and maintaining compliance across complex trade, customs and sanctions requirements worldwide. He has expert knowledge of US Customs Law, Department of Commerce Export Administration Regulations, Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Asset Control and Department of Commerce Antiboycott Regulations.
Mr. McGee’s notable assignments include duty and tax reduction projects and designing and implementing global trade compliance programs for Fortune 50 global companies such as Cardinal Health and Dell Inc. Recently, Mr. McGee led a team that implemented an automated trade compliance solution for several of BP’s largest international businesses. He worked with clients across various industries including oil and gas, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, electronics and retail.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. McGee served for more than eight years as the Global Director of International Trade Regulations for BP America in Houston, where he partnered with the corporate legal team to build their global compliance program and support BP’s businesses by identifying trade risks and developing control strategies to mitigate import and export compliance risks.
Previously, Mr. McGee led KPMG’s Southwest Trade and Customs Practice in Dallas, supporting clients with cross-border optimization and compliance projects including classification re-engineering, export licensing, deemed export programs, Foreign Trade Zones, transfer price studies, drawback claims, and other duty and tax reduction strategies. Prior to this he worked with Cardinal Health in El Paso, serving as their Corporate Director of Trade Compliance and assisting Cardinal businesses with cross-border compliance and developing their global trade compliance program.
Mr. McGee earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M and an MBA (concentration in accounting and finance) from the Red McCombs Graduate School of Business. He is a Co-founder of the Houston Energy Industry Trade Compliance Forum and Chair of its Steering Committee. Mr. McGee serves on the Chemical/Pharmaceutical Committee of the American Association of Exporters and Importers (AAEI).
