Gagan Malik is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in New York and leads the U.S. Asia–Pacific Tax team. He specializes in serving large multinational corporations on cross-border international tax issues, such as permanent establishment (PE) evaluation/attribution, treaty interpretation and eligibility, M&A transactions, restructuring, and dispute resolutions.

Mr. Malik has more than 30 years of experience advising on a range of tax, regulatory, and policy matters. He has worked extensively with clients in the U.S. and Asia–Pacific region around foreign direct investments and overseas expansions.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Malik spent nearly 14 years at EY, most recently as Asia–Pacific Tax Desk Leader in New York. He previously served as EY’s India Tax Desk Leader and APAC Global Tax Desk Leader, based in Singapore. Throughout his tenure, he established a sophisticated network poised to support multinational corporations with cross-border structuring, supply chain, and M&A projects.

Before that, Mr. Malik was instrumental in establishing an India Tax practice in Singapore for an Indian professional services firm and subsequently led the practice for almost three years. He was also responsible for establishing and successfully leading the India Tax and Regulatory practice for EY India while based in San Jose, California. During this period, he worked with West Coast clients, especially in the Bay Area and Washington. Mr. Malik started his career with Arthur Andersen in Delhi, India in 1994.

Mr. Malik is a regular speaker at international tax forums and conferences. He has spoken at events organized by the Tax Academy of Singapore, IBFD, International Tax Review, and the Tax Executives Institute. Mr. Malik has also led several tax director workshops in the U.S. and has authored articles on taxation for internal publications and international tax journals such as CCH and IBFD.

Mr. Malik earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Delhi (Shri Ram College of Commerce). He is a qualified Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
