Mr. Schmitz specializes in transaction advisory services and counsels private equity and corporate clients on domestic and cross-border buy-side and vendor due diligence, carve-out situations as well as in the preparation of closing accounts.
Mr. Schmitz brings more than 18 years of experience and has worked on more than 200 projects across a broad range of industries, though he has been primarily focused in the manufacturing, chemical, telecommunications, e-commerce and retail sectors. He has served as a project manager and key client contact for numerous vendor and buy-side due diligence transactions, ranging from €10 million to €10 billion, for financial investors and corporate buyers in Germany, Europe, North America and Japan.
He has completed vendor due diligence for the divestment of Rovema Group and MEN Group (both HQ Equita portfolio companies), Christ Juweliere by Douglas Holding (an Advent International portfolio company) to 3i, for the divestment of Hussel Group by Douglas Holding (an Advent International portfolio company) to Emeram and for the divestment of Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH by Steadfast Capital to Capiton.
He has also advised Hg Capitial on its acquisition of P&I Personal and Informatik AG, Siemens AG on its acquisition of the rail division of Invensys Plc., Curtiss-Wright Corp. on its acquisition of Phoenix GmbH, T-Mobile on its acquistion of Metro PCS, Melrose Plc on its acquisition of Elster Group SE, Median Kliniken GmbH &. Co. KG (Advent International portfolio company) on its acquisition of Pitzer Kliniken and Deutsche Beteiligungs AG on its acquisition of Polytech Health & Aesthestic.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Schmitz spent nine years with Deloitte & Touche including two years in New York. During his time at Deloitte Mr. Schmitz advised a wide number of private equity sponsors including KKR, Blackstone, Advent International, Hg Capital, Montagu and Advantage Partners as well as corporate clients such as Siemens, Deutsche Telekom, Danaher and Curtiss-Wright.
Mr. Schmitz started his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he worked in the international audit department and subsequently in the Transaction Service department.
Mr. Schmitz earned a Diplomkaufmann (equivalent to MBA) in international accounting, taxation and English from the University of Passau. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Washington.
