Alvarez & Marsal Expands Its Private Equity Performance Improvement Offering to Australia
Timo Schmid appointed as Managing Director and Practice Leader of A&M Australia's Private Equity Performance Improvement Group, bringing more than 20 years of adviser and corporate practitioner M&A expertise.
MELBOURNE, Feb. 02, 2023 – Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) announced the appointment of Melbourne-based Timo Schmid as Managing Director and Leader of its Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) Practice in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). The formation of A&M Australia’s PEPI practice represents a strategic service and geographic expansion following the recent establishment of the firm’s Southeast Asia and Australia (SEAA) division.
With offices in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Ho Chin Minh City, SEAA’s expanding geographic footprint reflects its hiring of more than 100+ professionals over the last the year.
Mr. Schmid focuses on advising private equity (PE) and infrastructure funds, as well as corporate buyers, undertaking target identification, pre-deal diligence, and post-deal value creation efforts. He has extensive complex sell-side transaction experience and has worked across a range of sectors, including retail, consumer, logistics, industrials, energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and digital assets.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Schmid led BCG’s private equity practice in Australia and New Zealand, serving a range of private capital investors and their portfolio companies. Previously he worked in a corporate M&A leadership role with Wesfarmers and as a consultant with Siemens.

Mr. Schmid earned a bachelor’s degree in business information technology from the University of Cooperative Education in Karlsruhe, Germany, and an MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics, Finland. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst® charterholder.
