Private Equity's ESG Journey
A&M and NYPEN's latest report, titled "Private Equity’s ESG Journey: NYPEN Survey Results Reveal Measured Progress," was highlighted in a Reuters article titled "U.S. Private Equity Firms Step Up Efforts on Providing ESG Metrics as Investors Seek Greater Disclosure." Increasing investor demand and heightened regulatory requirements have led private equity firms to increase their efforts in reporting ESG metrics.
As mentioned in the article, the report reveals that over 95% of respondents integrate ESG considerations in due diligence for evaluating acquisition targets. The survey indicates that only 10% of investors are presently not providing or utilizing ESG-related metrics in ongoing investment oversight.
Managing Director Jonathan Nus of A&M's Global Transaction Advisory Group said, "I think the headline of the report is measured progress. Some companies have taken a wait-and-see approach, while others have leaned in."
Nus mentioned that many private equity firms were "moving away from voluntary disclosure to having their portfolio companies report relevant ESG metrics." Read the full article to gain insights on the value of providing these metrics in a time of developing ESG standards.
