Richard Hell is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Corporate Transformation Services in Munich. He leads the European Automotive practice.

With more than 30 years of experience in automotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial products, Mr. Hell is an expert in product development, operations and quality improvement, launch and crisis management, and digitalization. He has worked with executive teams and C-level management in Asia, Europe, and North America on complex performance transformations and high-impact technical crisis situations. His operational experience in the industry as Plant Manager and Industrialization Lead gives him a holistic view of operational transformations and large-scale ramp-up programs.

Mr. Hell has strong experience in technical risk assessments, problem-solving projects, and the mitigation of short- and long-term financial and technical risks in new product introductions. He has managed multiple efforts in product cost reduction and design as well as supplier recovery programs.

Mr. Hell’s notable engagements include transformations/carve-outs of large global automotive Tier 1 players, as well as acting as interim Managing Director of a large European train manufacturing plant to transform the operation performance of a critical project site. He also managed complex automotive launches of battery electric vehicles across original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers for electric drivetrains, battery cell gigafactories, and wire harnesses. He was responsible for footprint design and optimization projects for OEMs and suppliers as well as multi-site operations improvement projects.
 
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hell worked with Oliver Wyman as Global Automotive Lead and Head of Oliver Wyman Engineers. Previously, he was Managing Partner and CEO of Shainin, a global specialist consulting firm providing complex technical problem solving and operations improvement. Before that, Mr. Hell worked for IBM in the U.S. on industry solutions business and emerging business opportunities. Before moving into the consulting industry, he held Executive Leadership positions for Mercedes-Benz and DaimlerChrysler in technology and operations in Germany, the U.S., and Asia. He started his professional career with Rodenstock in Germany and Thailand.
 
Mr. Hell earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (industrial automation and robotics) from the University of Regensburg, Germany. He is fluent in German and English.
