Nils Christoph von Hinten-Reed

With more than 30 years of experience, Mr. von Hinten-Reed provides expert advice to governments, international organizations, and the private sector. He has acted as an expert in a wide range of competition and commercial litigation cases across Europe and the Asia–Pacific region.
Mr. von Hinten-Reed has worked with clients across a diverse range of industries, including aviation, chemicals, energy, finance, pharmaceuticals, retail, telecommunications, and transportation.
Mr. von Hinten-Reed’s notable assignments include expert testimony in front of the U.K. Competition Appeals Tribunal and High Court on behalf of a supermarket chain in landmark litigation regarding interchange fees. He has provided expert evidence in a large telecom arbitration, in numerous competition cases before the European Commission, national authorities, and the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore, as well as in disputes before arbitration panels and courts. Mr. von Hinten-Reed has also led merger teams on Phase II (intensive) and Phase I investigations before competition authorities. Mr. von Hinten-Reed has served as an expert in proposed opt-in and opt-out class actions before the U.K. Competition Appeal Tribunal and the Dutch courts.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. von Hinten-Reed served as the Founder and Managing Director of CEG Europe and previously held senior roles as a Vice President at a U.K.-based economics consultancy. Before that, he served as a case handler with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition and as an Economic Advisor at HM Treasury in the U.K.
Mr. von Hinten-Reed earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from University College London and a master’s degree in economics from The University of British Columbia. He was recognized by Global Competition Review in 2024 as a recommended Competition Economist, is listed in the Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Competition and Antitrust Lawyers/Economists, and is recognized by the Lexology Index (formerly Who’s Who Legal) as a competition thought leader. Mr. von Hinten-Reed is fluent in English and German.
