Ms. Russell has provided valuations for a variety of purposes including: financial reporting, tax planning and compliance, solvency and other transaction related opinions, bankruptcy, and litigation support. Specifically, she has provided solvency opinions on some of the largest leveraged buy-outs.
With more than 17 years of valuation experience, Ms. Russell has worked with clients across various industries, including: media and entertainment, financial services, pharmaceutical, business services, insurance brokerage, wholesale distribution and industrial products.
Ms. Russell has in-depth experience providing fair value analyses for ASC 350 and 805 purposes, valuing reporting units and a diverse array of intangible assets including customer relationships and contracts, backlog, patented technology, trademarks and trade names, brands, proprietary know-how, license agreements, in-process research and development, franchise agreements, FCC licenses, artist contracts and music catalogs, internally developed software and non-compete / non-solicitation agreements.
Her experience in performing valuations for tax purposes relates to valuation of legal entities and assets as part of internal tax reorganizations and spin offs, transfers of intellectual property, transaction allocations for IRC Sections 338 and 1060, and net operating loss limitation analyses.
Notable engagements include: a solvency opinion for a multi-billion dollar leveraged buy-out of a transaction processing company, review services and analytic support to a creditor group in its litigation involving the bankruptcy of a national newspaper company, the valuation of several reporting units and underlying intangible assets of a national media company for impairment testing purposes, the valuation of a multinational music publishing company for financial reporting purposes, and the valuation of multiple legal entities of a technology company related to a tax-free spin-off transaction.
Before A&M, Ms. Russell spent 10 years with American Appraisal in New York, where she most recently served as the head of the Financial Valuation Group. In this role, she managed the company's valuation consulting professionals. This group performed valuation engagements related to businesses and intangible assets for various purposes, including: financial reporting, tax, fairness and solvency opinions, merger and acquisition and other business purposes. She also worked for Arthur Andersen’s Valuation Services Group.
Ms. Russell earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from DePaul University in Chicago and a master’s degree in business administration from the Stern School of Business at New York University. She is a member of the American Society of Appraisers. She has also co-authored articles regarding solvency and fairness opinions. In addition, she has presented to financial organizations on topics related to valuation of businesses and intangible assets.
