John Sanger is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal South East Asia and Australia. He serves as Co-Head of Digital Infrastructure, APAC.

With 30+ years of experience across digital infrastructure, telecoms, and information and communications technology (ICT), Mr. Sanger’s expertise includes data centers and infrastructure such as fiber, mobile networks, cell towers, and subsea cables.  

Mr. Sanger has extensive experience across the data center and digital infrastructure ecosystem, working with private equity infrastructure funds, telecommunications providers, platform owners, hyperscalers, and enterprise and government customers, as well as critical solution providers (such as cooling technology and connectivity vendors).  

Mr. Sanger’s notable assignments span commercial and operational due diligence for hyperscaler and colocation facilities, IPO readiness and market positioning, and market entry strategy for data center ecosystem providers. His work increasingly centers on advising clients on capital deployment into AI‑driven digital infrastructure as it undergoes structural growth. 

Mr. Sanger's transaction experience spans large-scale digital infrastructure carve-outs, advising on both buy-side and sell-side mandates involving the structuring of assets into standalone infrastructure platforms. 

Mr. Sanger has also supported infrastructure funds and operators through post-acquisition transformation and value creation initiatives across the investment lifecycle. 

Notably, Mr. Sanger was interim CEO for the 100% carve-out of an Australian digital infrastructure business. He provided strategic oversight and cross-functional leadership to deliver successful Day One operational readiness and establish a standalone operating model. 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Sanger held senior executive roles at Singtel Optus and ASX-listed AFG, including Chief Operating Officer (COO). At Optus, he was responsible for the strategy, transformation, and day-to-day operations of Optus Business, an AUD 1.7 billion business unit. Leading a 200-person team across strategy, operations, IT, digital, and program management functions, he drove the growth of an AUD 750 million ICT portfolio involving cloud and data center services, cybersecurity, and unified communications. Earlier in his career, Mr. Sanger held leadership roles at Alphawest, Logical Systems, and ACT Network Integrators. 

Mr. Sanger is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
