Janak Thakkar is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal M&A Tax in Mumbai. His primary areas of focus are both inbound and outbound cross-border transactions, tax structuring, tax due diligence, transaction tax advisory, and corporate restructuring.

With more than 15 years of experience in M&A tax, Mr. Thakkar has worked across a range of sectors including consumer, infrastructure, and technology, media, and telecommunications. He has played a key role in structuring complex transactions and group reorganizations for both corporate and private equity clients.

Mr. Thakkar has led numerous high-profile tax due diligences and inbound and outbound transactions and has advised on entry strategies, investments through tax-optimal jurisdictions, and exit considerations.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Thakkar spent over five years with Deloitte India, where he most notably served as Partner in the M&A Tax team. Prior to that, he worked for more than nine years with EY in its Transaction Tax practice.

Mr. Thakkar is a frequent contributor to leading newspapers and online tax platforms in India, where he shares insights on evolving tax issues. His strong technical acumen and strategic thinking have consistently added value to clients and transactions.

Mr. Thakkar earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Mumbai and is a qualified Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
