He has more than eight years of specialty focus in the Energy and Mining Sectors. In the Energy Sector he has performed valuations for E&P companies, midstream MLPs, oil field service companies and refineries (oil and petrochemical plants), and wholesale / retail distributors of petroleum products. In the Mining Sector he has worked on valuations and financial models related to the following commodities: gold, coal (thermal and coking), lithium, platinum, nickel, aluminum / bauxite, trona, copper, iron ore, steel, titanium, potash, uranium, rare earth minerals and zinc.
Mr. Herr has also performed numerous valuations in the technology, telecommunications and healthcare industries.
Mr. Herr headed an international financial modeling build and review practice at a Big 4 firm, building and delivering as well as reviewing for clients hundreds of Excel-based financial models. He led basic and advanced financial modeling courses out of London.
Prior to joining Alvarez and Marsal Valuation Services, Mr. Herr was a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he specialized in performing valuations for clients in the Energy and Mining Sectors. Prior to that, he was a Corporate Finance Director in KPMG’s Moscow office. He also served as a Vice President at BDO in Los Angeles. He began his career in litigation, working for an economics consulting practice in the Bay Area, where he supported and performed work as an expert witness.
Mr. Herr earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and Russian from Brigham Young University, a master’s degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA with an emphasis in accounting from the California State University at East Bay. He is a Chartered Financial Analysis charter holder and an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers. He has also completed all four CPA exams.
