Ian Foottit

Mr. Foottit’s primary areas of concentration are performance improvement, growth, and M&A. He has worked with clients across a broad range of industries, but for the last 20 years has focused on retail and business banking and payments. Most recently, Mr. Foottit worked extensively with a buy now, pay later (BNPL) player to re-assess its strategy and participation in the UK market.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Foottit spent 16 years with Deloitte. He was a partner in Monitor Deloitte, the firm’s strategy consulting business, led the firm’s Financial Services Strategy Team for five years, and founded and co-led the firm’s European payments practice. In payments, Mr. Foottit supported over 60 projects focused on growth and innovation, covering all aspects of the card payments value chain, including market entry and growth strategies in multiple markets across Europe. He assessed the business case to carve-out the processing business from a major European scheme and formulated the cross-border payments strategy for a leading retail foreign exchange (FX) player. He also helped a leading FX market infrastructure player re-shape its strategic investment priorities following the 2008 financial crisis.
In banking, Mr. Foottit worked with the management of troubled institutions to develop executable turnaround strategies, based on a robust view of likely future market conditions and institutions’ capacity to deliver the transformation required to become sustainable and investable. He also helped several incumbents assess the strategic and financial case for transformational M&A, leveraging the full range of Deloitte’s capabilities to develop a realistic assessment of synergies, including the time and cost to deliver them, and key commercial risks.
Mr. Foottit earned a bachelor’s degree in land management from Reading University and an MBA from INSEAD in France. A UK national, he is fluent in Italian and proficient in French and German.
