George Smith

With more than 25 years of management and consulting experience, Mr. Smith has worked across a variety of sectors including manufacturing, distribution, transportation and financial services. He specializes in process and performance improvement initiatives, post-close transaction integration, financial planning and analysis, cost reduction strategies, working capital improvements, liquidity and cash management, financial reporting and finance organization transformation.
Recently, Mr. Smith served as the Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of a $300 million private-equity owned specialty door manufacturing company. He was responsible for driving strategic initiatives; implementing cross-functional performance improvement initiatives to address deficiencies; improving working capital management and directing improvements to financial and operational reporting. Previously, Mr. Smith served as the Chief Transition Officer (CTO) of a privately-held toll road, responsible for establishing, leading and managing senior leadership and cross-functional teams targeting strategic development initiatives and operational improvements. In addition, he served as the Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) of a publicly-traded steel manufacturing company.
Mr. Smith also developed a bottoms-up budget and forecast for a $1.8 billion distributor of building product materials and leading the development of the company’s monthly operating report (MOR) and monthly management report (MMR) for key stakeholders and management. He designed and supported the implementation of finance and accounting process improvements within a large corporate transformation, managing financial functions and activities including budgeting and forecasting, cash flow forecasting, working capital management, lending relationships, lender reporting, capital structure and structuring and negotiating debt financing.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Smith was the Chief Executive Officer of The Freedom Group, LLC, a holding company for a variety of manufacturing and distribution businesses. Previously, he was a Director of Corporate Finance for Navigant Consulting and held positions with Arthur Andersen, Price Waterhouse, Ameritech and Wrigley.
Mr. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in operations management from Northern Illinois University and an MBA from Loyola University of Chicago.
