Amith Karan is a Managing Director with Alvarez and Marsal in India, with 14 years of line operations and consulting experience.

Notable achievements include: helping a leading Indian infrastructure support services company in a cash-distressed situation to overcome the crisis; conducting the due diligence of a leading specialty films company in India in a strategic carve-out situation; evaluating a potential merger between leading consumer goods companies, which required an assessment of merger synergies, incremental growth prospects, key business and integration risks and impact from industry consolidation; and developing a portfolio strategy for the European arm of a foods company to focus on key brands and better allocate resources.

Mr. Karan also developed an innovation strategy and operating model for a global drinks company to double new product sales over five years; led commercial due diligences for private equity deals across industrial, consumer and healthcare; executed a business improvement program to improve profitability at an under- performing paper products company; conducted a detailed diagnostic across the value chain to identify top line and cost reduction opportunities and implemented the improvement program; and developed a turnaround plan for a loss making business within a private equity portfolio company.

Before joining A&M, Mr. Karan spent three years as part of the management team of Aranca, a leading outsourced research and analytics services firm based in India. He served as a Director overlooking business development and strategy. During his time there, the business grew by three-fold, core operations were strengthened and new processes were introduced for performance management, MIS and operational efficiency.

Earlier, he worked for six years with McKinsey across industries such as consumer, retail, industrial and private equity. He started his career and worked for four years with Asian Paints, in which he led a cross-functional team of 20 people with P&L responsibility. He was also responsible for building operations in Africa and expanding the company’s global footprint.

Mr. Karan earned a bachelor’s degree in science from Nizam College, Hyderabada master’s degree from NMIMS and a master’s in business administration from the London Business School.
