Alessandro Ranzoli is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring in Milan. He brings more than 25 years of experience in financial planning, cash management for distressed companies, change management reorganization and IT process implementation.

An expert in managing the transition from family-owned company to private equity shareholding, Mr. Ranzoli focuses on the luxury, shipping, pharmaceutical and B2B industry.

In the last 15 months, Mr. Ranzoli has acted as shadow CFO leader for a fully owned private equity Italian shipping company operating in the dry bulk and tanker sector, with a fleet of 15 vessels and annual turnover of ~ €100 million. He was also asked to take an interim CEO role, replacing the CEO and founder, to ensure more efficient and cost-wise operations. Other notable engagements include acting as Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Corneliani (Italian menswear brand) during a three-month interim management project. He finalized the budget, implemented a new reporting package and created a timely invoicing process by enhancing customer service procedures and shipping activities.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Ranzoli served as CFO at Sergio Rossi after it was acquired by Investindustrial. He managed the carve-out of admin functions and retail operations from previous Kering shared services; finalized the merger and liquidation of Italian and foreign affiliates; supervised the new direct cash flow forecast process, and a new treasury policy. He focused on cash and working capital, reducing inventory level across foreign retail affiliates, and renegotiating terms and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors.

Prior to that, he was the CFO of Gaudì Trade (denim) and for Boglioli (menswear), which was owned by Wise, an Italian private equity firm. For both companies, he reorganized all finance functions, changed treasury/collection procedures, introduced new standards of manufacturing finance and managed the setup of U.S. and retail affiliates. He also introduced tight cash and working capital initiatives as part of an art 67 Italian Insolvency Law procedure. Previously, he was CFO at Leggiuno (textiles), and a Finance Manager and Group Controller in Giorgio Armani Group.

Mr. Ranzoli earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Università Luigi Bocconi of Milan. He is fluent in English and Italian.

Understanding shifts in consumer values lies at the heart of survival for many retail and consumer brands. Successive waves of disruption have permanently altered much of the landscape, with the rise of digital, the shift to online, a global pandemic and geopolitical tensions all forcing changes in ways that were once unimaginable.

It is a well-accepted fact in the world of venture financing that a majority of startups fail . The traditional approach among venture capital (VC) and venture debt funds has been to focus on the companies that succeed and cut their losses with the ones that don’t.
