Torsdon Poon is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Los Angeles. He works in the Global Corporate Transaction Tax and Advisory practice.

Mr. Poon specializes in international tax and transaction advisory. His primary focus areas include structuring corporate acquisitions, dispositions, spin-offs, reorganizations, joint ventures, and intellectual property (IP) transactions. He also advises on internal restructurings such as post-acquisition integration, intercompany cleanup, legal entity rationalization, cash repatriation, cross-border planning, and foreign-to-foreign restructurings.

With over 30 years of international tax and M&A experience, Mr. Poon has successfully designed and implemented numerous transactions for multinational groups, ensuring efficient structures and seamless post-deal integration. Notable assignments have included leading complex cross-border integrations, legal entity simplification, cash repatriation strategies, and IP planning, and advising on corporate separations and spin-offs.

Before joining A&M, Mr. Poon spent three decades at EY. He joined the National Tax Mergers & Acquisitions Group and served as the Americas International Tax and Transactions Integration Leader, previously holding positions as the Americas Transaction Tax Leader and the Americas Transaction Tax Markets Leader. He served on EY’s Global Governance Council and the Americas Advisory Council.

Mr. Poon earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Siena College, New York, a JD from the American University Washington College of Law, and an LLM in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, Washinton, DC. Mr. Poon has also served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center and spoken at programs run by the American Bar Association, the Tax Executives Institute, and the District of Columbia Bar. He is an active member of the American Bar Association and the Maryland State Bar Association.
