The Australian Financial Review: ‘Perfect’ time to take on the big four consultants: NY firm

Managing Director and Global Practice Lead, Paul Aversano and Managing Director of TAG's Australia service, David Willis sat down with the Australian Financial Review to talk about the appointment of five Global Transaction Advisory Group Managing Directors as part of our expansion of our Global Transaction Advisory Group in Australia.

The article covers A&M’s entry into the Australian market noting it had come after much planning and consideration but has turned out to be perfectly timed given the problems facing the big four consulting firms in Australia.

The article also touched on A&M’s long history turning around stressed businesses noting its role with Lehman Brothers in 2008.

Paul and David discussed the rationale for the expansion in Australia noting the country is a major, developed market in need of a competitive alternative outside the big four and that the move was part of a global expansion from Europe and the Middle East to Asia-Pacific.

The article also covered the fact that A&M was free of audit conflicts unlike larger rivals who generally could not provide other services to audit clients, limiting the range of clients their consultants can advise.

Finally, it touched on A&Ms competitive compensation structure noting that staff own equity in the global business, including other divisions like restructuring which was designed to be counter cyclical to ensure the broader equity value of the firm was not over-weighted to one division over another.
