Alvarez & Marsal Taxand Bolsters Capital Expenditure Offering via Credits & Incentives Expertise

Shazan Rizvi, recognized for improving investment returns in large corporate transformations, joins A&M

Chicago – Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, LLP (A&M Taxand), an affiliate of leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), has appointed Shazan Rizvi, a Senior Director working with its Corporate Transformation Tax offering. Mr. Rizvi’s hire expands A&M Taxand’s ability to create the sustainable cash flow, operational costs, workforce and profitability improvements that drive value for clients.

A&M Taxand’s Corporate Transformation Tax team works with clients and collaborates across the firm’s business units to ensure that long and short-term tax considerations are factored into performance improvement projects to deliver additional value to clients

Mr. Rizvi will advise clients looking to maximize negotiated and statutory global, state and local credits and economic incentives to increase their cash flow, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), and bottom line. In a shifting macroeconomic climate with challenging post-pandemic realities, Mr. Rizvi’s decade of global credits and incentives experience within aerospace and defense, business services, engineering and construction, and technology industry sectors will benefit clients.

“Shazan’s joining gives our clients a fresh look at what’s possible,” said Albert Liguori, Corporate Transformation Tax Leader for A&M Taxand. “His focus on global economic incentives and credits enhances our tax and trade support for large-scale organizational re-investment across supply chain, research and development (R&D), intellectual property, customs and duties and digitalization.”

“Too many large organizations are missing governmental co-investment opportunities,” said A&M’s Automotive & Industrials Group leader, Rick Kozole, who collaborates with the Corporate Transformation Tax team. “The sharp uptick in capital re-investment these past years, especially with near-shoring, operational and digital platforms, has outpaced most organizations’ ability to access readily available sources of funding and liquidity. Shazan’s hire augments our ability to help clients maximize those benefits.”

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Rizvi was with the National Credits and Incentives team at Deloitte Tax, LLP.  In that role, Mr. Rizvi secured more than $20 million in annual recurring incentives for clients. His work has driven EBITDA benefits, typically with an annual approximate impact of $2 million in EBITDA. Previously, he assisted a leading manufacturer with the investment of $35M million in capital equipment for a new manufacturing facility and secured $2.5 million in cash incentives.

“In addition to his global tax incentives perspective, Shazan’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) experience and work opportunity tax credit expertise will help clients drive change,” said Ernie Perez, the Global Tax Practice Leader at A&M. “Shazan’s in-depth knowledge of negotiating incentives with local authorities aligns with our leadership, action, results approach to solving clients’ complex problems.”

Mr. Rizvi earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from DePaul University and a J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. He is a member of the Illinois Bar, and the Cook County, and DuPage County Bar Associations, and frequently presents on incentive programs to state and local jurisdictions.
