Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), has strengthened its Middle East team with several senior appointments in support of expanding its performance improvement and restructuring mandates across multiple sectors.

Paul Gilbert transfers, from A&M’s European based Restructuring practice to A&M’s Dubai office as Managing Director and Head of Alvarez & Marsal’s Turnaround and Restructuring practice. Karim Benhameurlaine joins as Managing Director Head of Healthcare in A&M’s Corporate Performance Improvement practice alongside Sumit Mittal and Dr. Sara Alom Ruiz, newly appointed Senior Directors with A&M’s Dubai-based Strategy and Performance Improvement team.

Commenting on the appointments, Dr. Saeeda Jaffar, Head of Middle East and Managing Director, Alvarez & Marsal, noted: “The multiple hires are part of our strategic expansion plans and growth in the Middle East region. In his prior role as a Senior Director in A&M’s European restructuring group, Mr. Gilbert, worked extensively on turnaround and restructuring engagements across multiple jurisdictions as well as interim management positions including Chief Restructuring Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Currently, Mr. Gilbert is working on the complex restructuring of a healthcare organization and leading the finance workstream.

Mr. Benhameurlaine brings over 20 years of experience, delivering enterprise-wide strategy, operational restructuring, finance transformation, and performance improvement across the healthcare industry in the Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining A&M he served at GE Healthcare as a Managing Partner in the region.

Mr. Mittal will have a focus on financial services clients. He has extensive experience advising leading commercial banks, central banks, and public financial institutions in the region on strategy formulation, cost transformation and organization restructuring. Additionally, Mr. Mittal has worked with leading investment banks across India and the U.S.

Dr. Alom brings over 16 years of executive healthcare management experience with leading private healthcare providers across the region including involvement in the UAE’s largest healthcare merger and the strategy for the combined group. Prior to joining A&M, Dr. Alom served as the Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer for King’s College Hospital London, UAE, focused on service offering differentiation, business development and marketing strategies, pricing and insurance management, service line management and integration projects.
