Tony Hopkinson

Mr. Hopkinson specializes in supporting domestic and multinational clients on buy- and sell-side in corporate acquisitions, as well as private equity transactions. He also advises on corporate restructurings, insolvency and turnaround and private equity fund structuring. Mr. Hopkinson has worked with colleagues across tax and other service lines to support businesses for Day 1 readiness and legal entity stand up post carve-out.
Additionally, Mr. Hopkinson brings expertise in supporting multinational businesses across a range of industries, including healthcare, technology and financial services, on the impact of VAT on their businesses, including optimising VAT recoveries on costs and the correct VAT liability of income streams and costs.
Mr. Hopkinson has been a part of teams supporting clients with complex VAT issues in courts and tribunals in the U.K., including multi-party VAT litigation arising out of corporate M&A activity, liability-based disputes and a raft of single versus multiple supply disputes, including supporting a capital markets client to resolve its dispute without a hearing and convincing HM Revenue and Customs to change its guidance.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hopkinson worked with and on behalf of taxpayers in disputes and in a consulting capacity. He started his tax career at HMRC Solicitor’s Office.
Mr. Hopkinson earned a bachelor’s degree in law and a postgraduate diploma in legal practice.
