Stephen Gorse

Mr. Gorse’s primary areas of expertise are plant management and transactional and transformational continuous improvement. He has served clients in automotive aerospace, machine building, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, consumer electronics, food and beverages, food services, oil and gas, fast-moving consumer goods, and retail.
Most notably, Mr. Gorse led the rollout of a global performance improvement strategy for Stanley Black & Decker (SBD). He was A&M Project Lead at the largest tools and outdoor site in the U.S., standing in as Interim Plant Manager and leading A&M and SBD Operational Excellence team members and the site Continuous Improvement team through a rigorous structure program. This delivered $18 million in cost savings against a target of $7.5 million and was six months ahead of schedule.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Gorse was the Interim Site Director for three different food and beverage manufacturing companies producing fresh, frozen, and prepacked goods for the major U.K. retail outlets. He worked in the telecoms industry with Nortel Networks, Flextronics, and Philips. He implemented Lean concepts such as Jidoka, Standard Work, Total Productive Maintenance, value stream organization, and shop floor management. Using Lean philosophy, he delivered productivity improvements, inventory and lead time reduction programs, and plant relocation and layout optimization programs. Before that, Mr. Gorse was Global VP Operations Excellence based in the U.S. for a major building and utilities manufacturer, where he was fully responsible for developing the continuous improvement strategy and global rollout.
Mr. Gorse received his initial Lean training in the U.K. while at Toyota, making several trips to Japan for advanced Toyota Production System training. Mr. Gorse also spent valuable time with the founders of the Japanese Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) and Professor Yamashina, founder of the World Class Manufacturing program.
Mr. Gorse earned a PhD in Lean manufacturing/manufacturing management from Cranfield University, U.K. He is a member of the JIPM and Shingo Business Excellence program and is a licensed British Retail Consortium advanced auditor. He is a British American national.
