Stefan DeBellis is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Brisbane. He specializes in stamp duty and advises on the rules in each of the eight different Australian states and territories.

With more than 20 years of Australian stamp duties experience, Mr. DeBellis leads with practical advice, creating value and managing risks for clients and stakeholders.

Mr. DeBellis’ notable assignments include advising on the take private of Tilt Renewables; advising REITs on acquisitions of industrial and commercial real estate; advising managed funds on portfolio acquisitions in the healthcare and other services sectors; and advising project proponents on the establishment of new mines and infrastructure projects. 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. DeBellis spent more than 20 years with PwC, where he was a Principal and then a Partner for over 10 years. 

Mr. DeBellis earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and law from Macquarie University in Sydney. He is a contributing member to the Tax Institute of Australia, and is a speaker at professional conferences and industry events.

The Victorian Commercial and Industrial Property Tax Reform Act (Act) has now passed through the Victorian Parliament following the initial announcement last year as part of the Victorian government’s 2023–24 Budget.
From 1 July 2024 onwards, transactions that involve Victorian commercial and industrial property will trigger one final round of stamp duty. Following this, the property will enter the new CIPT system.
