Richard Olson
Leveraging over two decades of experience in the industry, Mr. Olson is known for advising private equity, private credit, infrastructure, and secondary private equity investors on complex valuation and transaction opinion needs across Europe and the US. He provides valuation and opinion services to clients across sectors and geographies, and he advises alternative asset managers, limited partners, and financial institutions on their portfolio valuations and transaction opinion requirements.
Mr. Olson possesses a deep understanding of third-party valuations and opinions in support of alternative asset investments. He has experience across buyouts, growth, and secondary markets. He has worked across Europe, bringing a global perspective on valuation standards and regulatory expectations.
Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal, Mr. Olson led the European Valuations practice at Lincoln International in London, overseeing a team that performs nearly 1,000 valuations quarterly. Prior to that, he was a Managing Director at Duff & Phelps, where he led the EMEA secondary market advisory team. Mr. Olson also served as Managing Director and Head of Research at Origami Capital Partners, where he headed the group’s European operations. Before that, he worked at the Anschutz Investment Company, where he focused on private credit and special situations investment across Europe, and Young & Associates, a telecommunications infrastructure specialist.
Mr. Olson earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a trusted resource for alternative asset managers navigating valuation, pricing, and transaction complexities across Europe and the US.
