Nicola Barbini is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal's European Transaction Advisory Group in London.

Mr. Barbini specializes in providing sell-side and buy-side financial due diligence, independent business reviews and transaction advisory services to private equity and corporate clients in relation to acquisitions, disposals and re-financings.

With more than 17 years of transaction services and investment banking experience,  Mr. Barbini has significant expertise in cross-border M&A transactions, both in terms of providing due diligence and in negotiating and arranging financing. He has worked with clients across various industries, including retail and consumer, healthcare, business services, industrials and TMT.

Most recently, Mr. Barbini advised Platinum on the acquisition of Wyndham and Exterion Media; Paine & Partners on the acquisition of Suba Seeds and Bioagricert; Meggit Aerospace on the disposal of three divisions; Union Park on the acquisition of AMS Alliance; Sweat! Union on the disposal of a minority stake; Stirling Square on the acquisition of NFA and Acorn; Apposite on the disposal of By the Bridge; Catterton on the acquisition of Sweaty Beatty; Levine Leichtman on the acquisition of GL Education; and Inflexion on the acquisition of Outdoor Plus.

Additionally, he has advised Bluegem on acquiring Mamas & Papas and Enotria, H.I.G. Capital on acquiring International School of Europe in Italy; Elysian Capital on the acquisition of Wellbeing Software Group; Ares Capital on the Take To Private of Healthcare Locums; CBPE Capital on acquiring Xafinity Consulting and disposing Kane; Electra on the disposal of Daler Rowney; 3i on the minority investment in Go-Outdoors; and Dresser-Rand acquiring Grupo Guascor. 

Mr. Barbini performed a number of independent business review, including Waste Italia on behalf of its bondholders and M&G Chemicals on behalf of its investors. Mr. Barbini has also performed the operational restructuring of a leading POP manufacturer and shopper marketing agency with a focus on fixing several pricing/costing issues, and the operational review of a pan-European provider of healthcare services (including diagnostics), identifying cost savings opportunities and advising on initiatives to improve management information.

Before joining A&M, he served at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in London, executing debt financing for LBO transactions backed by private equity sponsors. His financings included the acquisition of Bodycote Materials Testing by CD&R, Coor Service Management by Cinven and SafetyKleen by Warburg Pincus. While at RBS, he was involved in developing the U.K. Government's Asset Protection Scheme, valuing the bank's leveraged loan portfolio under different distress scenarios.

Mr. Barbini earned a master's degree in business administration with honors from the University of Ancona in Italy. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.  Mr Barbini is an Italian and British national.
