Mikhail Raybshteyn is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in New York. He specializes in insurance tax and alternative risk finance strategy, including captive insurance consulting. Mr. Raybshteyn advises global insurance, reinsurance, captive insurance, insurtech, and diversified financial services organizations on complex tax and risk finance matters.

With more than 22 years of industry experience, Mr. Raybshteyn has worked extensively with global, multinational, and regional life, property and casualty, health/Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), financial guarantee, and captive insurance structures, as well as bank holding companies, insurance brokers and agencies, and organizations across both financial and non‑financial sectors. His work spans tax planning, technical tax advisory, business advisory, and broader strategic risk management services.

Mr. Raybshteyn is a leading voice in insurtech tax advisory, having developed service offerings across the full company life cycle and spearheaded its growth in the northeastern US. In the alternative risk finance and captive insurance arena, Mr. Raybshteyn provides tax planning, structuring, risk advisory, tax controversy support, and regulatory guidance across traditional and emerging insurance markets. He assists clients with the design, formation, utilization, and restructuring of captive insurance and other alternative risk finance programs, as well as the evaluation and development of insurance products for captive insurers.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Raybshteyn was a Tax Partner in EY’s Global Insurance Sector, where he held key leadership roles, including Americas Captive Insurance Services Co‑Leader and US Northeast InsurTech Tax Services Leader.

Mr. Raybshteyn earned a BBA in accounting (magna cum laude) from Baruch College of the City University of New York and a master’s degree in taxation (summa cum laude) from Fordham University Gabelli School of Business. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in New York and Florida and an active member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and several insurance and tax industry associations. He has been named multiple times on the Captive Review Power 50 list of captive insurance professionals, received the NYSSCPA and Captive International “40 Under Forty” awards, and been inducted into Marquis Who’s Who in America.
