Michael Timm is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Corporate Transformation Services in Düsseldorf.

With nearly 20 years of experience in the chemicals and process industries, Mr. Timm specializes in transformational situations requiring strategy development, reorganization, carve-outs, integration, and performance improvement. He has advised clients across a broad range of industries, particularly in chemicals and oil, steelmaking, energy and utilities, construction, and pharma.

Notably, Mr. Timm has worked with several DAX- and MDAX-listed companies, including conducting a footprint review for a chemical company with sites in Europe and North America; supporting a specialty company in the carve-out and transaction preparation of a non-core business, including providing financial vendor assistance and deal modeling; providing financial advisory and transaction modeling to a specialty chemicals company involved in a bolt-on acquisition; carrying out a comprehensive performance transformation by integrating the full transformation into a detailed financial model, creating organizational alignment, and supporting the board in the successful negotiation of a restructuring collective-bargaining agreement; and supporting the development of an investment proposal for a green energy value chain, including market sounding with investors, infrastructure players, and public authorities.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Timm spent 10 years with a listed, globally operating specialty chemicals company, most recently as Vice President of Marketing and R&D for an operational business. In this role, he led the integration of an acquired business into the group, designed a new business strategy, managed complex operational and supply-chain challenges, implemented divestments, reshaped the global production footprint, and assessed acquisition opportunities.

Previously, as Vice President for Corporate Segment Strategy, he drove large-scale business reorganizations, cost-reduction programs including plant closures, and M&A-based growth strategies. He was responsible for the design and implementation of multiple transactions, including a circa €2.5-billion public takeover, and designed the corresponding post-merger integration program. Earlier in his career, he worked with Roland Berger in the chemicals and oil industry.

Mr. Timm earned an MBA in industrial management and marketing from the University of Mannheim. He is fluent in German and English.
