Michael Surr

Mr. Surr brings more than 17 years of experience across a range of transaction settings, specializing in buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence services to private equity and strategic corporate clients on transactions valued from $100 million to $5+ billion. Mr. Surr’s experience ranges from transactions involving middle-market acquisition targets to multibillion-dollar complex cross-border carve-out acquisitions across a range of industries.
Mr. Surr’s areas of expertise include identification and assessment of financial risk areas, quantification of items directly impacting transaction valuation (e.g., understanding normalized EBITDA, adequacy of working capital levels, debt items), analysis of KPIs, purchase agreement reviews, and support and carve-out transaction implications.
Mr. Surr has served private equity and strategic corporate clients on a number of M&A engagements across a range of industries, including diversified industrials (from aerospace to chemicals), manufacturing, consumer products and services, and business-to-business and direct-to-consumer services. He has also led international due diligence transactions for both private equity and strategic buyers involving multiple workstreams (including geographical and functional).
Before joining A&M, Mr. Surr was with the Strategy and Transactions Group of EY in New York. He began his career with EY in the U.K., spending his time on financial and business M&A due diligence for U.K.- and European-based private equity and strategic corporate clients, and financial and business due diligence for stakeholders in Pan-European special situation scenarios (including secured lenders, pension trustees, and equity holders).
Mr. Surr earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and management from the University of Oxford and is a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
