Michael Nissan

Mr. Nissan has nationally recognized expertise in using profits interests to compensate senior management, as well as advising private equity firms on the economic terms of partnership and LLC arrangements. He works on complex transactions for both sellers and buyers, including designing multiple jurisdiction management equity incentive plans.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Nissan headed the Private Equity Executive Compensation & Benefits practice of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP, where he spent his entire legal career. Additionally, for over 20 years, Mr. Nissan taught Private Investment Funds at Columbia Law School as a Lecturer in Law and also taught Private Equity and Venture Capital Investing. He also regularly guest lectured on management equity arrangements in private equity at Stanford Law School and on private equity funds at Harvard Business School.
Mr. Nissan was recognized as a leading lawyer for Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation in New York by Chambers USA; recognized by Legal 500, Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers; and named among the “500 Leading U.S. Corporate Employment Lawyers” in Lawdragon. He was the founding Chairman of the Private Investment Fund Forum and also served as a member of the Advisory Board of Private Equity Terms and Conditions. Mr. Nissan also served as Chairman of Weil’s Pro Bono Committee, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Good+ Foundation and a Vice-Chair of the board of directors of Vibrant Emotional Health.
Mr. Nissan earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and psychology from Syracuse University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in the state of New York.
