Mr. Kang advises boards of directors, management teams, investment groups and creditors on a broad range of turnaround, performance improvement and restructuring issues.
With more than 20 years of diverse financial advisory experience, Mr. Kang has advised clients in debt restructurings, corporate turnarounds, asset sales, loan workouts and bankruptcies. His expertise includes evaluating business plans and capital structures, preparing cash forecast models, developing turnaround strategies, implementing liquidity conservation and cost reduction initiatives and preparing plans of reorganization. He has extensive experience leading projects involving SEC reporting, forensic accounting, restatements and financial statement compilation.
Mr. Kang’s most recent engagement experience includes Revel Systems, Inc. (Interim CFO), Cardiac Science Corporation (CFO and CRO), ShengdaTech, Inc. (CRO and Liquidating Trustee), China-Biotics (Receiver) and Rodeo Creek Gold, Inc. (CFO). Mr. Kang also recently served as CFO of Knowledge Universe, the largest private provider of early childhood education services with revenue in excess of $1.4 billion. He was responsible for financial planning and analysis (FP&A), accounting, internal audit, procurement, treasury, tax and IT. Mr. Kang oversaw numerous cost reduction, fleet rationalization and revenue enhancement initiatives which resulted in year over year EBITDA growth of 65 percent.
Previously Mr. Kang served as CRO of Hines Horticulture Inc., CRO of Perquest, Inc. and in various interim management roles for a $2 billion publicly-traded specialty retail services company. His other clients have included Language Line Services, Citadel Broadcasting, Novelis, Qwest Communications, Oakwood Homes and ICG Communications.
Prior to A&M, Mr. Kang spent 10 years with the corporate restructuring and dispute analysis practices of two Big Four accounting firms in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Mr. Kang earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California Los Angeles and an MBA from the University of California Berkeley, Haas School of Business. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA). He previously served on the board of directors of the Northern California Turnaround Management Association and is a member of the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors.
