Mark Belanger, a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring & Turnaround, specializes in strategic and financial advisory services, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings and financings. Mr. Belanger has over 15 years experience advising companies in the energy and natural resources industries.

Recent notable transactions include the sales of Recon Construction Services, America’s Water Heaters Rental and Medicor, the restructurings of Ziff Davis, USI, Maax Corporation, Sleep Innovations, Direct Group, Taylor Wharton Industries, Arclin, WorkFlow Industries, Merrill Corporation, Evergreen Aviation, IAP Worldwide Services and the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, as well as financings for K Hovnanian Homes and Murray Energy.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Belanger led the energy and natural resources practice at FTI Capital Advisors, LLC.  He has also held senior banking positions at both Credit Suisse First Boston and Banc of America Securities, where he was responsible for client coverage as well as origination and execution of M&A mandates for the power and utilities sector.Some of his notable transactions in the power & utilities sector include; the sale of Westcoast Energy to Duke, sale of Conectiv to Pepco, the acquisition of Columbia Energy by NiSource, the acquisition of Pepco generation assets by Mirant, Mirant’s acquisition of Orange & Rockland generation assets, and the sale of a minority interest in NRG to Xcel Energy.

Additionally, Mr. Belanger has significant experience in the supermarket, automotive and general industrial sectors.

Mr. Belanger earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Toronto and a master’s degree in business administration from University of Western Ontario.
