Louis Lam
With more than 28 years of experience in China and Hong Kong SAR, China markets, Mr. Lam brings regional and global perspectives on remuneration design, tax equalization, termination packages, talent mobility policies, tax audit negotiations, and cross-border social security planning. He advises private equity firms, financial institutions, and multinational corporations on the design of pre- and post-initial public offering share-based compensation and carried interest plans. For a holistic approach to cover talent mobility, incentivization and retention, Mr. Lam considers market trend, foreign exchange restrictions, and permanent establishment risks.
Mr. Lam’s notable assignments include end-to-end value creation for equity plans for startups and leading multinational corporations, from design to tax authority ruling before implementation. He has also conducted process transformation and data automation for policy implementations and employee communications on a range of topics for founders, directors, and executives, including tax and China’s foreign exchange processes, as well as multi-jurisdictional tax, pension, tax residency, trust structure, and tax treaty benefit planning.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Lam spent 14 years with PwC in Hong Kong SAR, China, as the China South Leader and Tax Partner of Global Mobility Services. He has established connections with officials of the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China, China’s State Taxation Administration, Greater Bay Area tax bureaus, and Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department.
Mr. Lam earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration (accounting and finance) from the University of Hong Kong. He is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) (and its Taxation Faculty Executive Committee, Budget Proposals Task Force, and China Tax Support Group), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC).
