Joseph J. Sciametta is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in New York. With more than 15 years of restructuring experience, he specializes in advising troubled companies, as well as lenders in distressed situations.

Mr. Sciametta has advised numerous clients in various stages of the restructuring process. His primary areas of expertise include business plan development and review, liquidity and working capital management and forecasting, Chapter 11 planning and labor negotiations.

Mr. Sciametta has represented clients and lenders in various industries. Representative assignments include Aeropostale, USA Discounters, Liberty Tire Recycling, Lehman Brothers, Aleris International, SP Newsprint, Interstate Bakeries Corporation, Fedders, Bush Industries, National Equipment Services, United Airlines, Comdisco, and Singer NV. 

Most recently, Mr. Sciametta served as Chief Executive Officer of USA Discounters during its Chapter 11 cases.

At Liberty Tire Recycling, Mr. Sciametta served as Chief Restructuring Officer in the successful out-of-court restructuring of the company’s balance sheet.

At Lehman Brothers, Mr. Sciametta served as Treasurer. In this role, he was responsible for managing cash and assets of up to $25 billion and calculating distributions to creditors in excess of $60 billion. He also managed an internal hedging program and process to forecast cash flow across the estate.

At Aleris International, Mr. Sciametta led an Alvarez & Marsal team that, working with management, managed liquidity, developed a weekly reporting package, prepared for a Chapter 11 filing and developed a comprehensive liquidation analysis of the global business.

At Interstate Bakeries Corporation, Mr. Sciametta was part of the Alvarez & Marsal team that managed liquidity, prepared a multi-year business plan and implemented a plan to rationalize customers and products (resulting in several plant closures). Mr. Sciametta also negotiated more than 400 Collective Bargaining Agreements resulting in significant union concessions and savings to the company.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Sciametta worked in the corporate restructuring group of Arthur Andersen.

Mr. Sciametta has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in business administration from Fairfield University.  He is also a non-active Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
