Joan Uy is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Turnaround and Restructuring team in Sydney. She brings more than 13 years of experience in operational turnaround and financial restructuring across Asia Pacific and Australia.

Ms. Uy has extensive experience collaborating with senior management and teams to understand the business better, identify key issues and opportunities, and present solutions to create a more sustainable business. She has worked with clients in private equity, consumer retail, healthcare, and media.

Ms. Uy’s notable engagements include managing a cost reduction program for a private healthcare operator in Australia. She optimized the number of administration roles in each hospital, an FTE reduction that delivered A$40 million in annual savings. To ensure administration costs remained at a sustainable level, Ms. Uy implemented recruitment controls and closed redundant open roles. She identified A$10 million of potential cost savings in allowances and other benefits that can be considered as part of broader union negotiations.

Ms. Uy has also been involved in complex turnaround and restructuring matters. She assisted in the $1.9 billion debt restructuring of a mining company in Indonesia and managed cash and liquidity when Arrium (now part of GFG Alliance) and Network Ten went into voluntary administration. Ms. Uy has also provided FP&A services and led the debt refinancing for companies in consumer retail.

Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Uy worked with professional advisory firms, leading projects in cash/liquidity management, working capital management, cost reductions, debt restructuring and refinancing, and distressed M&A.

Ms. Uy earned a bachelor’s degree in management engineering from Ateneo de Manila University. She is a member of the Turnaround Management Association.
