Ms. Johal brings international privacy experience, having been located in London, San Francisco and most recently, New York. Having spent almost five years in the U.S, she supports clients in implementing European General Data Protection Regulation and addressing the ever-evolving U.S. privacy laws and global laws across Latin America and Asia-Pacific. She has worked across a range of industries, including finance, technology, media, digital assets and automotive.
Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Johal spent more than 10 years with the Privacy and Data Protection Practice at Promontory, an IBM company, where she founded its global Privacy Centre of Excellence and most recently served as Head of Privacy in the Americas. As part of this role, she led several multi-year global privacy programs, implemented privacy enhancing technologies, advised on topics such as AI, digital marketing and ad-tech and supported with business-critical technology, cloud and digital transformations.
Previously, Ms. Johal acted as the interim head of Privacy Legal Operations for a global social media technology firm in San Francisco, helping develop a privacy compliance framework in response to its FTC Consent Order.
Ms. Johal earned a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Leeds and an LLM from Kings College London. She also completed the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School; is certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals with the CIPP/Europe designation; and is part of the management team for non-profit Women in Security and Privacy in New York and London.
