James Dervin is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in the Middle East, and Co-head of the region. He is also the Firm’s Performance Improvement leader for the region, and heads up the Riyadh and Abu Dhabi offices.

Mr. Dervin brings more than 20 years of experience (9 as a Partner/Managing Director) and works with businesses and for stakeholders across the spectrum from performing businesses, through to those tackling specific challenges. 

He has extensive experience of the deal environment, executing financial, commercial and operational due diligence, and extensive experience of working capital management, business plan development and business and liquidity reviews for stakeholders. 

He was worked with clients in various industries, including healthcare, industrials (aerospace and defense, automotive, energy and resources), manufacturing, consumer products, services, construction, financial services and technology, media, and telecommunications.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Dervin spent 16 years with Deloitte‘s Financial Advisory business, eight as a Partner/Managing Director.  His recent engagements include advising KSA-based investors re: the acquisition of a UK main-listed construction business in the energy sector; advising a US-listed investor re: an acquisition in the GCC; advising a group of KSA-based financiers re: the in-court restructuring of a construction business; advising an ad-hoc group of international and regional lenders to NMC Health and serving as Head of Corporate Finance for Doncasters Group (a global precision engineering business) where he developed and implemented short-term cash flow monitoring and reporting systems, asset level and group business plans, and an associated asset-monetisation programme, overseeing associated disposal processes.

After successfully completing several gulf-related re-financings from London, Mr. Dervin was seconded to Deloitte Middle East, during which time he led the Financial Advisory business in Abu Dhabi, working with international and regional financial institutions, sovereign and government clients, and other eminent regional investors throughout the Middle East, North Africa (MENA) and India.  

Mr. Dervin also has banking experience having been seconded to two UK clearing banks during the global financial crisis, focused on public and multi-bank situations.

Mr. Dervin is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
