James Chvatal is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in Houston. He serves as A&M’s Chief Risk Officer and oversees the firm’s Global Risk Office.

In his role, Mr. Chvatal is responsible for A&M’s global risk policies and programs as well as fostering a culture and mindset within the firm that applies risk management principles into all areas of its business operations and decision-making. 

Mr. Chvatal has a rich history with A&M, having previously served on the Executive Committee for A&M’s Corporate Performance Improvement division, where he was responsible for a broad range of activities related to strategy, growth, finance, and people, among other matters. Over a 20-year period, he was instrumental in growing the practice in North America and providing leadership and support for global A&M strategic initiatives.

Mr. Chvatal is a thoughtful collaborator, skilled listener, and people-oriented leader focused on supporting A&M’s market-facing leaders across the firm. He has advised engagement leaders on complex risk and fiscal management matters and other service delivery issues, and he has worked with business leaders across the firm to foster growth and collaboration.

Mr. Chvatal earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration (concentration in accounting) from Texas A&M University. He also serves in leadership roles related to various personal and civic interests.
