Greg Hunt
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hunt served as a senior cabinet minister in the Australian Government for almost nine years, working across the health, environment, and innovation portfolios. As Minister for Health from 2017 to 2022, he led Australia’s national COVID-19 response, established permanent telehealth within Medicare, and oversaw major reforms in mental health, aged care, and medical research. He managed an annual health budget of $132 billion, covering 17 portfolio agencies and 7,000 staff.
As Minister for Industry and Innovation, Mr. Hunt led the creation of the Australian Space Agency. As Minister for the Environment, he established the Emissions Reduction Fund, the Green Army, and the $1 billion Reef Trust. He also served as Lead Negotiator for Australia in the Montreal Protocol update and the Paris Climate Accord and was named Best Minister in the World at the 2016 World Government Summit. Notably, Mr. Hunt served as the Federal Member for the division of Flinders from 2001 to 2022, the longest tenure in the seat’s history. Earlier in his career, he held roles as Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment and for Foreign Affairs, as well as Shadow Minister for the Environment.
Before entering government, Mr. Hunt worked as a lawyer with Mallesons Stephen Jaques, an Associate to the Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia, and a Senior Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs. He subsequently joined McKinsey & Company, where he was an Engagement Manager, specializing in government reform, telecommunications, and financial services.
Mr. Hunt earned a bachelor’s degree in arts and law (with first-class honors) from the University of Melbourne and a master’s degree in international relations from Yale University as a Fulbright Scholar. He has delivered over 10,000 speeches and interviews and has represented Australia at various international forums. Mr. Hunt has also been appointed as an Honorary Professor at the University of Melbourne and University College London. Further, he serves as Chair of the Advisory Council for the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health at Monash University and Chair of the CARDIO4Cities Accelerator Advisory Steering Committee.
