Erin Covington is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Public Sector practice in Washington DC. She specializes in strategy, operations improvement, financial sustainability, complex resource allocation decisions and investigative and transaction advisory services within the education industry.

With more than 20 years of experience, Ms. Covington has served in key leadership positions and provided management and advisory services for commercial, public sector and non-profit clients. During her career, she has been focused on applying specialized turnaround techniques in complex situations to help organizations maximize value and potential.

Ms. Covington has led notable education engagements for clients including the South Carolina Department of Education, Alliance College Ready Public Schools, Newark, NJ Public Schools, New York City Department of Education, Washington DC Public Schools, Prince George’s County Public Schools, Howard University and Antioch College.

She also has experience working with several organizations in the healthcare industry including a $1.7 billion provider of senior living services, a $1.3 billion home healthcare and staffing company, a 251 bed acute care hospital, a sleep study company, and a medical device company. Other A&M engagements include restructuring and performance improvement efforts at ACA Financial Guaranty, JA Jones, and Levi’s Strauss and Company.

Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Covington served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Friendship Public Charter schools where she led the completion of a public bond offering, resolved material weaknesses in federal grants management, and significantly improved working capital management. Previously, she served as CFO at American Enterprise Institute in Washington DC, worked in the financial reporting division for Pacific Gas & Electric’s energy trading division, and worked at KPMG performing various audit and consulting engagements.

Ms. Covington earned a B.B.A. in accounting from James Madison University. She is a board member at Monument Academy Public Charter School—a Washington D.C. based weekday boarding charter school focused on serving children that have been in contact with the foster care system and or with significant social and emotional needs.
