Duncan MacRae is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring & Turnaround in Calgary. With over 11 years of accounting and financial experience (including over seven years of turnaround and restructuring experience), he has worked on numerous restructuring engagements. 

Mr. MacRae specializes in conducting independent business reviews and court appointments, acting as Receiver and Trustee under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA) and as Monitor and Information Officer under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA).

Mr. MacRae has worked with clients in various industries, including energy (exploration and production and oilfield service), real estate investment and development, construction, agricultural and technology sectors. His notable engagements include acting as court-appointed Receiver of Robus Resources, Greenfire Hangingstone, Ranch Energy, OpsMobil Inc., Petrowest Corporation, Spyglass Resources and LGX Oil + Gas; as court-appointed CCAA monitor of the Walton Group of Companies; as Proposal Trustee under the BIA for Griffon Partners and Greenfire Hangingstone; and as court-appointed CCAA information officer of Cyxtera Canada, Voyager Digital and C&J Energy.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. MacRae spent seven years with Ernst & Young in Calgary, concentrating on corporate restructuring. He advised a broad range of clients, including corporate boards and management, secured lenders, and lending syndicates. Previously, Mr. MacRae worked with a global land investment firm, advising on their existing and future investment vehicles.

Mr. MacRae earned a bachelor’s degree from the Gerald Schwartz School of Business and Information Systems at St. Francis Xavier University. He is a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP), a Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT), and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA). Mr. MacRae is a member of the Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) and the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP).
