Dawn Pettis-Smith

Ms. Pettis-Smith specializes in providing valuation services for appraising businesses, business interests and intangible assets for financial reporting and tax purposes, spanning many industries, with a particular emphasis on manufacturing, distributing, technology, construction, wholesaling, retailing and service. She has also provided valuations for transaction advisory, management and strategic planning, divestitures and restructuring purposes.
Ms. Pettis-Smith brings significant experience in assisting public and private clients in the application of complex accounting literature for financial reporting and tax valuations. Her valuation experience encompasses a variety of matters, including purchase price allocations, goodwill and indefinite lived asset impairment studies, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, carve-outs, capital asset impairment testing, estate and gift tax planning, U.S. and foreign corporate and individual tax strategies and common and preferred stock valuations.
Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Pettis-Smith was a Director in the Transaction Services Practice of Grant Thornton LLP for 15 years, where she was focused on valuation consulting. Before that, she worked at American Appraisal Associates, Inc. and Arthur Andersen LLP.
Ms. Pettis-Smith earned a BBA in finance from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. She is an accredited member of the ASA and has the CEIV designation.
