Burak Powers is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s U.S. Energy Practice in Houston. He specializes in developing strategies for and improving operations of energy companies.

Mr. Powers’ primary areas of concentration are enterprise-wide transformations, M&A strategy and execution, portfolio and asset strategy, operational excellence and low carbon solutions. He brings 20 years of industry and consulting experience with a focus on upstream, LNG, and chemicals.

Mr. Powers has worked with IOCs, NOCs, independents and chemical companies. His work for IOCs includes shale operational excellence, North America gas and LNG market outlook and price forecasting, project investment reviews, and negotiations with host government; for NOCs, M&A strategy and execution and management system implementation; for Independents, enterprise-wide transformation (including organizational design), board presentations, portfolio simplification and trading and monetization strategy; and for chemical companies, growth strategy, low carbon innovation strategy (including R&D/venture capital), partnership negotiations for a low carbon hydrogen project and portfolio and asset optimization.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Powers was a Strategy Director with LyondellBasell. His industry experience also includes ExxonMobil and Woodside Energy. His prior consulting experience includes Bain & Company with the Houston and Dubai offices. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he was an entrepreneur for four years and led an educational software start-up.

Mr. Powers earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Duke University.
