Alvin Chang is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Houston. He specializes in advising companies on federal and state tax matters, specifically in tax planning, compliance, provision and financial reporting matters.

Mr. Chang has experience helping multinational public, non-public, corporate, nonprofit, flow-through entities and individuals on a variety of income tax matters, including complex business transactions and federal, state, and international income tax issues, such as ASC 740, compliance services, financial reporting, tax planning, IRS and state audit support, and corporate tax department services. He has significant expertise working with private equity funds and their portfolio company investments, and has served clients across a range of industries including energy, manufacturing, healthcare, professional services, retail and technology.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Chang worked at the Texas Tech Low Income Tax Clinic in Lubbock, Texas, where he represented low income taxpayers in tax controversies against the IRS. This involved appearing before the U.S. Tax Court and IRS Appeals Division for audits, appeals, collection matters and federal tax issues. Previously, he worked for Judge Frances H. Stacy of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the Office of the Attorney General of Texas in Austin and Kenneth C.L. Chan Chambers, a private practice law firm in Hong Kong, China.

Mr. Chang earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. from Texas Tech School of Law. He is an active member of the State Bar of Texas and the American Bar Association.
