Global INFRA Launches Energy Markets Intelligence

Alvarez & Marsal’s Infrastructure and Capital Projects (INFRA) team is launching Energy Markets Intelligence (EMI), a global sub-practice built to help A&M clients make sharper decisions in volatile energy markets.

Energy markets are becoming increasingly complex, and that complexity is reshaping utility strategy and capital programs, investors’ decision making, large load procurements, commodity prices, and the economics of generation assets and the business decisions tied to them.

EMI cuts through that complexity with in-house-developed analytical tools grounded in market intelligence to address four connected fronts.

  1. Energy Market Fundamentals and Dynamics: We map where demand and prices are headed and why through locational energy and capacity forecasts, load growth scenarios, and stress cases grounded in actual grid dynamics rather than generic assumptions.
  2. Regulatory and Policy Intelligence: We track how rules drive performance by quantifying the impact of regulatory changes, system operators’ market designs, and government policy shifts on revenues, risk profiles, and timelines.
  3. Customized Market Solutions: We build in-house analytical tools that go beyond standard market evaluations, including BESS dispatch modeling, hedge structuring, dynamic scenario modeling, and contract restructuring to address complex questions that standard market views cannot answer.
  4. Capital Deployment Advisory: We translate our holistic intelligence into capital deployment decisions, including due diligence, CapEx prioritization, and portfolio optimization for investors, developers, utilities, and large industrial users.

Marcos Ganut, Managing Director and Head of Global INFRA, said of this launch:

“The EMI team is the next step in expanding A&M INFRA’s capabilities in the energy space to better serve clients across the energy and infrastructure lifecycle. By integrating deep market intelligence into our workstreams, EMI enables A&M INFRA to go beyond the role of a traditional and isolated capital advisor, bringing an external proprietary market view and quantifying its impact on execution.”

Hassan Hamdan, Managing Director and Global Head of INFRA Energy added:

“Our key differentiator is our ability to generate insights at the pace of decisions, and our data ecosystem enables us to provide early answers where possible and deeper analysis where it adds value. Delivering insights at this speed is not simply a function of hours spent; we have built back-end operations to automate data ingestion and the execution of our models, enabling a grounded perspective on how market evolutions today will shape the grid in 20 years.”
