Johan van der Westhuyzen is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Infrastructure & Capital Projects in Abu Dhabi and Cape Town. He advises executives and boards on improving asset productivity and operational risk performance in high-hazard, asset-intensive industries. His work focuses on helping organizations strengthen operational discipline and deliver sustainable performance in complex industrial environments. 

With more than 20 years of international consulting experience, Mr. van der Westhuyzen has led large-scale operational transformation programs focused on asset productivity improvement, operational risk reduction, and leadership capability development. He works closely with leadership teams—from frontline supervisors to the executive and board level—to strengthen operational management systems and embed sustainable performance practices. 

Mr. van der Westhuyzen has delivered transformation programs across the metals, mining, chemicals, utilities, and oil and gas sectors, supporting organizations in improving asset performance and strengthening operational risk management across large-scale industrial operations. He has worked across all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe and the UK, Pakistan, Turkey, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, and Japan. 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. van der Westhuyzen led DuPont’s consulting business across the Middle East and Africa for more than 18 years, where he built and scaled consulting teams and led transformation programs across major industrial organizations in high-hazard industries. 

Mr. van der Westhuyzen earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of the Free State, South Africa, and a PLD (Professional Leadership Development) from Harvard University.
